Antiheroes: Treatise of a Lost Soul
Where is this place I find myself falling faster and drowning in the ocean of descriptive, depraved, yet intense words crafted together to tell the story of one lost soul leading a band of antiheroes into the dark foreboding nights of Detroit’s street life, in a way that one only could who felt these streets in their blood. Drinking, drugging and violence is just another day in the world of these debauched reprobates. They are fueled on strong drink and cocaine, sexually charged, in an underground goth scene that even those that see it on the surface will never know or understand unless they were there and experienced it themselves.
In this underground world we see the emergence of the leader of the pack. He is a lawless young man with a tumultuous lifestyle. Turbulent, frenzied and disorderly he tries to hold onto control, in a fast, wild struggle within himself as well as in the world around him. Trying to keep his grip on the wheel, the lights of the motor city flying past in a blur. Every moment is an ill-defined, substance fueled mania that brings our protagonist closer to the edge. This is the conduct, condition and behavior that Fade tries to control. From the brink he pulls back just in time, to save himself and his friends from going over.
Fade and Spam are the core of these gothic misfits that terrorize the streets of Detroit. Make no mistake, they do not cause issues for the average somewhat decent citizens of the city. No, this band of maverick deviants victimize other gangster miscreants like themselves. In the mad mind of Fade he is able to convince himself that somehow what they do is in some way a form of twisted justice.
Fade is the true antihero. For all his wrong doings, he is the champion of the underdog. Our antihero has a strong sense of social justice. His soul cringes as he sees the bully terrorize their targets. It triggers him, the insecurities, the tortured feelings of pain from deep within. If no one else in this fucked up world seems to care, Fade does and he will make it right.
But like any other drugs Fade, Spam and Disintegration were abusing they had to keep pushing it without hesitation. Eventually they let the throttle loose, no care for the turns in the road coming at them at such an accelerated rate. Now they throw away any care and kick it into a feverish, furious, crazed ride that has created its own momentum that not even Fade is able to keep his ever tightening grip; knuckles ashy and white. Eventually there is only one way for this intense and desperate ride to end.
As Fade and his band of gothic misfits speed along I too am turning pages at a rapid pace. I, like the boys in the story, am now opened up and ready to fly towards the end. Unsure, the fates of Fade, Spam and Disintegration will end differently than when I close the book after the final chapter is done. Redemption, destruction, or some other unknown outcome? Fade the urban philosopher, what will be his endgame? Spam the viscous romantic, what destiny lies in wait for him? How will Disintegration’s future turn out? Any answers you seek about Fade and his unruly crew are found in the book Antiheroes: Treatise of a Lost Soul.
Antiheroes is a fantastic, gripping, tale that is dark, chaotic and packed with action. It is a deeply psychological study into the mind of lost souls and misspent youth. I enjoyed this book from cover to cover; I usually grow bored with introductions, and forwards, but not here. I would highly recommend this book. It has it all! The scenes created in the mind are cinematic and the dialogue with others or with himself are to be cherished. Abe Sulfaro is a modern day philosopher and this book will be a testament to that.
This book published by Moonbeam Manuscripts is available at wordeee.com as well as Amazon. If you are a fan or just interested in Detroit, the goth scene of City Club, intense violence with poetic overtones, or you just enjoy a good story this book is for you. I was caught up, I could not escape Fade’s grip. Fade is based off the author, Abe Sulfaro also known in the goth and music scene as “The Gothfather” he was a staple at Leland’s City Club. Writer, poet, musician, and philosopher, Abe Sulfaro has left his mark on the Detroit scene and hopefully will be internationally known for his work bringing to life the Detroit underworld in Antiheroes.
