Juneteenth You Say
A random guy said Juneteenth don’t mean shit to him.
I said well that’s fine, as an American it’s okay to feel how you want. Nobody should be forced to celebrate anything they choose not to. I went on to ask him, but are you able to tolerate and respect others who do wish to commemorate and honor this day?
He was speechless, and honestly he should have started that way. Perhaps in a kind way I made him think, I hope at least. I went on:
This holiday is not a black thing, or a white thing it is an American thing. Many white people fought and suffered, some ultimately died. They sacrificed for slaves that they never met, but this should bring us together as a human thing.
