Red Wings Fall to Maple Leafs 3-2
October 5, 2024
Frank A. Fiorello;
Auston Matthews' clutch goal tied the game, and subsequently led to John Tavares' goal to seal the Toronto Maple Leafs' 3-2 win over the Detroit Red Wings in Saturday's preseason game. You just don’t let a guy like Tavares get time to set up on your net like that. However it was a learning experience for the prospects.
For the preseason finale in Toronto, Detroit's Wings sent a starter-less squad to face the majority of Toronto's top players, and though outplayed in stretches, I’d w they held their own in a 3-2 loss.
On Wednesday, the Toronto Maple Leafs will launch their regular season campaign with a road matchup against the Montreal Canadiens, while the Detroit Red Wings will host the Pittsburgh Penguins in their season debut on Thursday. I would suggest the tides may turn with our main lines set.
The NHL's roster submission deadline requires both teams to finalize and submit their 23-player rosters by Monday at 5 p.m. ET.
The Maple Leafs dressed a nearly full-strength lineup, while the Red Wings chose to keep key players Dylan Larkin, Patrick Kane, Alex DeBrincat, and Moritz Seider out of the lineup.
Husso demonstrates a strong return to form following an extended absence due to a lower-body injury last season. He is poised to assume the starting role in net when the Wings commence their season next week.
The Red Wings are well-positioned for success over the next few years, given the caliber of their prospects. Other prospects showcase strengths that can provide valuable depth on the lower lines. As the regular season draws near, the Yzerplan will spearhead a cohesive unit, poised to make a postseason push.
