The Trouble With Warren.

It’s not worth it. What you write won’t matter. None of it will make a difference. Statements like these are thrown at me constantly. They are not only disappointing, discouraging and depressing, they also are part of the problem.

Democracy in our country on every level is so fragile thanks to corruption. It is so corrupted that the citizens, those voters and taxpayers that feed the machine, have thrown up their hands and buried their heads.

Since buying a home in the south end of Warren, Michigan, I have started watching the political game here and it is the perfect model of the debased, declining and increasingly desperate hold of power we see on the federal level.

The actors are the same. The only thing they really work for or towards is their own personal interests. Their need for power and greed is insatiable, their lies know no bounds. The truth is, the voters are an accessory to the theft of our freedoms, our rights and sadly they have no clue.

Is the average voter uninformed? I seek to find information and answers. Yet I am left wondering, bewildered and not sure what or who to believe. There is so much misinformation being spread that most people don’t know what to believe either.

What I do know is what I see and what I live. I own my home, there are many houses on my block that are rentals. The renters I have encountered are good and decent people, with jobs and just trying to live their semblance of the American Dream.

All the money in the tax coffers heads to the north part of the city. There is a distinguishable difference between the two halves of Warren. The blight patrols are the only real city presence in our side of town. I called the police one late afternoon about my garage being broken into. It was not until over five hours later in the evening we received a call asking if we still wanted an officer to come out.

This situation is unacceptable, unfortunate and not uncommon sadly. The police spend their time on the south end pulling over young people in a hope to find a bit of drugs, so they are able to tout how they work hard keeping drugs off the streets. But do very little in serving the community.

The tickets between the police and city blight patrols are a new phenomenon I like to call “taxation without representation.” As most have no idea when or how these ordinances passed or work. That is where people need to become aware.

With these fines and penalties, I see little to no investment in the south side of Warren. As our neighbor Centerline grows and prospers, we here in the third largest city in Michigan, sit stagnating. Opposed to opportunity with viable businesses such as dispensaries. We would gladly take one on Van Dyke south of Ten Mile Road.

Let’s talk about Van Dyke, M-53 has the possibility to be a gorgeous place, lined with incredible buildings that sit vacant. There is no real incentive for anyone to invest their money, time and energy into a business. Especially when the leadership doesn't care to help invigorate the area.

In Detroit they are doing all they can and more to help people build businesses, in turn they help build communities that ultimately build the people. This is the leadership that Warren deserves, that all people everywhere deserves. This is America and “We The People” need to realize it’s our government, not theirs.

Let us ban together and create unity and community. Stop allowing the wrong people to lead us! We have a choice, do not allow fear to repress you. They are projecting fear into the people, because they fear we will stand up. If we stand up, they bow down.
